Scientific Achievements
Dr. Oak performed the FIRST ROBOTIC PAEDIATRIC LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY IN INDIA at BYL Nair hospital along with Prof. THOM LOBE ON 10TH Jan 2003.

Dr.Oak participated in National Surgery Update in Indonesia

(5-8 May 2006) to train surgeons – “MAS in Children”.

Under his leadership; Dept. of Paediatric Surgery and M.I.C.U. of             T.N.Medical College & BYL Nair Ch. Hospital, Mumbai acquired ISO 9001:2000 certification in Jan. 2006.  This is the first ISO accreditation in Public Health Sector in India.

Dr.Oak separated successfully Xipho-Omphalopagus conjoined twins on 23-09-2006 in B.Y.L.Nair Ch. Hospital.  The twins born to an extremely poor daily earner’s family were adopted by the hospital for seven months.  They shared liver and undwent a successful separation by a team of         doctors and paramedics which was lead by Dr.Oak S.N.

On 21st March 2006 2 babies fused at the level of abdomen and umbilicus were referred to Dr.S.N.Oak.  They were born to a family of four from low socioeconomic class.  Their father is a rickshaw driver and the family has 2 elder daughters.

These conjoined twins were in Department of Paediatric                  Surgery  under leadership of Dr.S.N.Oak and they were reared for 6 months.

On 23rd September 2006, Dr.Oak lead a team of 30 Health Care personnel and after a tedious and dexterous operation for six and half hours these twins were successfully separated.

Twins shared the skin over abdomen and were fused in livers liver had to be cut and shared between both of them.  Today both these kids Afreen and Farheen are thriving very well and are completely independent of each other

This Surgery is extremely unique and a rare feat of accomplishment.
